My name is Jimmy and I want to tell you about what happened to me last year. I was playing outside at my grandmother's house, when it started getting dark outside. I asked my grandmother if it was a storm. She said yes, we were in a storm watch. I had learned about what a storm watch was last year in first grade so I knew to be watchful. My sister and I kept on playing, when all of a sudden the sirens starting going off. I was scared, my grandmother yelled at me and my sister to come into the house. She made us get into a closet, she placed pillows in the closet with us. I think there were 9 pillows in all. It got really quiet and then the wind blew and blew. I thought the house was going to blow away, my sister sat and cried. I worried about my dog, Lenny, who was at my house alone and I was scared for my mom and dad. The wind seemed to last for hours but my grandmother told me it was only 15 minutes. Then I heard a terrible noise from outside the closet. I was really scared. It sounded like a bomb. Grandmother held me and my sister very close. I asked her if we were going to die. She said, NO!! That everything would be OK. It was quiet outside and when my grandmother opened the closet door we saw the outside. The tornado had blown the roof and the wall away. But my grandmother said what was important was that her two babies were alright, That was me and my sister. Grandmother called where my mom worked and she was ok then she called my dad on a cell phone and he was on his way to us. I was so glad my dad was coming. That night, we had no electricity, at our house and grandmother had to stay with us because of her roof gone. My dog was ok and my mom was too. It was a very scary day for me. I knew what to do, because I had learned about tornadoes in first grade. But now in second grade I am really learning what to do, where to go and how to be safe.
